How much does a commercial security camera system cost?

Most commercial camera systems run $3,000 to $25,000 installed. A typical professionally installed IP camera, including its share of recorder, storage, cabling and labor, lands around $600 to $1,200 per camera. Resolution, retention period, licensing, and whether cabling already exists are the biggest cost drivers.

The four line items that matter

Cameras, recorder and storage, cabling and labor, and software licensing. Cheap quotes usually cut storage retention or omit per-camera license fees, then the true cost appears later. Ask for retention in days at full frame rate and confirm whether licenses are perpetual or annual.

    • Camera hardware and mounts
    • NVR/recorder plus drives sized for your retention
    • Cable pulls, terminations, PoE switching
    • Licensing, remote access and ongoing support

Where the money is well spent

Storage retention and identification cameras at entrances. Both directly determine whether footage is usable when something actually happens. Ultra-high resolution on every overview camera is usually a worse investment than the right camera at the right choke point.
